Each child currently enrolled in home visits who will be making the transition to kindergarten this fall receives a canvas bag containing school supplies such as pencils, crayons, scissors and paper... and a copy of the book "The Kissing Hand".

Welcome to Birth-to-Five!

Birth-to-Five is a service organization dedicated to maximizing the social-emotional, intellectual, language, and physical development of young children in Wayne County. Programs are free to all Wayne County residents and participation in Birth-to-Five is strictly voluntary.

Wayne County Foundation Grant

Birth-to-Five was awarded a grant for $4,863.14 to purchase a new set of developmental screening tools. The DIAL-3 will be used annually for children ages 3-5 years old who are enrolled in Parents as Teachers home visits.

Developmental screenings are a "snapshot" of a child at a particular moment in thier growth that allows a Parent Educator to discuss with the parent(s) if their child is developing "on track" or if there is a potential delay that may need to be addressed. This particular tool will assist in conversations about school readiness since it will be used during the preschool years.

The DIAL-3 is currently used at the Early Learning and Family Literacy Center of the Richmond Community Schools. By purchasing and using this tool, Birth-to-Five will add to the consistency of services in our community.
